- Chemistrya colorless, flammable, water-soluble, cumulatively poisonous gas, H2S, having the odor of rotten eggs: used chiefly in the manufacture of chemicals, in metallurgy, and as a reagent in laboratory analysis. Also called sulfureted hydrogen.
